And this year, World Sight Day comes on 14th October 2021. Eye health affects education, employment, the integrity of life, poverty, and other multiple objectives. Government, organizations, corporations, and institutions should encourage the public actively to support broad access to eye health.

Significance of World Sight Day

Untreated cataracts and refractive negligence are the significant causes of visibility damage. Age-related macular relapse, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, contagious eye disorders, and trauma may also damage eyesight. Adequate treatment of refractive errors and early-stage cataract surgery can reduce the risk of Eyesight Damage. These marks will play a fundamental role in improving global eye care coverage in the future. Reduced eye health influences our education, livelihood, public interaction, and other multiple purposes of everyday life. 

History of World Sight Day

Lions Clubs International collaborated with blindness prevention organizations to celebrate the first event of World Sight Day on October 8, 1998. Later, this event was incorporated into VISION 2020. The International Agency organized world sight day for the Prevention of Blindness in 2000. This ambition is a joint program of the World Health Organization and the International Agency for Prevention of Blindness. Non-government associations and professional federations, eye-care institutions, and corporations are involved in this ambitious project.

The World Health Organization and the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness energetically organize events and activities for world sight day. Lions Clubs International Association is also actively performing best to organize events and develop awareness about eye health and World Sight Day. Lions clubs around the world organize sight-related projects each year. These projects include vision screenings, eyeglass contributions, therapeutic surgeries, eye health instruction platforms, and the donation of supporting devices to people with vision trauma. 

On October 13, 2016, the Armenian Eye Care Project (AECP) celebrated World Sight Day in Armenia. Its main purpose was to improve global awareness of blindness and vision suffering. World Sight Day event was held on 11 October 2018 at Pakistan Institute of Community Ophthalmology (PICO) Ground. The objective was to raise global awareness on the issue of blindness and sight defects.

The main aims of World Sight Day

The main aims of World Sight Day include raising public awareness about blindness and visual impairment. Governments and Health Ministers should join and donate funds to blindness prevention projects to develop cognition about blindness prevention. The public should support Vision 2021 program activities.

World Standards Day is an international day commemorated each year on 14 October. This day is celebrated to praise the struggles of thousands of professionals. These professionals developed voluntary norms along with standards development organizations to work for the betterment of the world standards. Their efforts for world standards improvement were published as International Standards. Each year on 14 October, the members of IEC, ISO, and ITU celebrate this day. It also raises awareness about the better vision of world standards.

History of World Standards Day

In 1946, ambassadors from 25 countries assembled in London and decided to establish an international organization. 14 October was mainly selected for World Standards Day. Its objective was to promote standardization. And in 1970, the first World Standards Day was celebrated.

Events Celebration| World Standards Day

Several activities are selected by national standards associations and social organizations to celebrate the World Standards Day year. The Standards Council of Canada commemorates World Standards Day jointly with the international organization. The Standards Council of Canada celebrated World Standards Day on Friday, 12 October 2012. The United States organizes an annual Celebration of World Standards Day. 

Aims of World Standards Day

The main purpose of World Standards Day is to raise awareness among controllers, commerce, and patrons.
