World Animal Welfare Day is an international day to raise awareness about animal privileges and welfare. It is celebrated every year on October 4, the feast day of Francis of Assisi, the supporter saint of animals. World Animal Day currently has a web of 97 ambassadors from animal organizations in 70 countries worldwide, such as Animals Asia Foundation. History of World Animal Welfare Day

Heinrich Zimmermann inaugurated First World Animal Day on March 24, 1925, in Berlin, Germany. Over five thousand people accompanied this first event. This activity was organized on October 4 to correlate with the feast day of Saint Francis of Assisi. But, due to the unavailability of the platform, the event on that day was shifted to October 4, 1929. Zimmermann struggled for the buildup of World Animal Day. Eventually, in May 1931, at an International Animal Protection Congress in Florence, his proposal was accepted.

And October 4 was approved as a resolution of World Animal Day. In some countries/ cities, world animal day celebrations were started in 1931 and 1948. Since 2002, The Finnish Association of Animal Protection Associations has governed several events during Animal Week and delivered stuff to schools to raise awareness about animal welfare. World Animal Day is evolving as an international event that brought up animal protection activity. On October 27, 2006, the Polish parliament approved a resolution for the authorization of October 4 as Animal Welfare Day.

World Animal Day Grant Winner Organizations

Nature Watch Foundation annually sponsors selected animal welfare organizations by granting them a World Animal Day Grant. Some Collaborating Organizations are also working for animal welfare. This selection is based on the organization’s projects done for the welfare of the animals. These animal welfare organizations are enlisted:

In 2014, the first grant was awarded to People for Animals Ghaziabad India to prevent the overloading of bull carts and tanga carts. They provided information about animal diets and also treated injured animals. 

In 2015, the fund was granted to the Tanzania Animal Welfare Society to facilitate laboring donkeys and wandering animals. 

In 2016, the Kurdistan Organisation for Animal Rights Protection was awarded funds for the welfare of animals in markets, pet shops, and zoos. 

In 2017, a major grant was given to the Jakarta Animal Aid Network. The purpose was two forest restoration courtyards in Sumatra, particularly for sun bears.

In 2018, the donation was donated to People for Animals Siliguri. The objective was to buy animal ambulances for injured animals. 

In 2019, the grant was given to the Liberia Animal Welfare & Conservation Society. The main purpose was to educate society about animal protection law. 

In 2020, Animed Arad, Romania, and the Himalayan Animal Rescue Trust, Nepal were awarded donations 2020. 

In 2021, International Organization for Animal Protection, Cameroon, and the Africa Network for Animal Welfare, Kenya won these donations.

The main purpose of the World Animal Day celebration is to bring up perceptions for the welfare of animals. It is celebrated on October 4 every year. Our aim should be caring, conserving, and spreading knowledge about animals. International Organization for Animal Protection is doing its best for animal protection and preservation.
