England won the toss and they decided that they will have a bowl first. Dew was the main factor that they decided to bat second. Andre Russell was included in the playing XI of West Indies after he got fit. Both sides were full of power hitters. But read what happened in the game.

Evin Lewis and Lendl Simmons opened the innings for West Indies. Both the openers failed to impress. Evin Lewis got out after making 6 runs. He was dismissed by Chris Woakes. Shimron Hetmyer also failed to score big and got out on just 9 runs on 9 balls. He was dismissed by Moeen Ali. West Indies score was 31 runs with the loss of four wickets in the powerplay.

Dwayne Brave was promoted in the batting order but he also failed to score. He scored 5 runs and was dismissed by Chris Jordan. Nicholas Pooran’s poor form continues and got out on 1 run in 9 balls. He never looked comfortable on the crease. A big inning from any player was needed but sadly it could not happen.

Captain Kieron Pollard failed to score big too. He was dismissed by Adil Rashid on 6 runs on 14 balls. Andre Russell got out on a second-ball duck. He was also dismissed by Adil Rashid.

A poor batting performance from the defending champions. None of their batters tried to play the 20 overs and took them out of the tough period. That’s what generally happens to a power-packed side- They struggle on the slow pitches. It was the second-lowest total for West Indies in T20 internationals. Their lowest total was 45 runs in 2019.

England Bowling:

England bowlers were brilliant with the ball. Credit goes to them the way they bowled. They came with the plan and that worked quite well for them. Moeen Ali bowled three overs in the powerplay and he picked two wickets in those overs that set the tone for the game.

Tymal Mills was also successful in picking two wickets. Adil Rashid records his career-best bowling figures. He bowled 2.2 overs and picked 4 wickets including Pollard and Russell. Jordan and Woakes also picked a wicket each.

England Batting:

Jason Roy and Josh Buttler opened the innings for England. Jason Roy got out after scoring 11 runs in 10 balls. He was dismissed by Ravi Rampal. Jonny Bairstow came at no 3. He scored 9 runs in 6 balls and got out. Moeen Ali got run-out after scoring just 3 runs. England scored 39 runs with the loss of 3 wickets in the powerplay.

Liam Livingstone came at no 5. His form was also not good in UAE. He has struggled in these slow pitches. He was dismissed by Akeal Hossain on just 1 run. Eoin Morgan scored unbeaten 7 runs in 7 balls.

Jos Buttler stayed at the one end and finished the game for his side. He scored unbeaten 24 runs in 22 balls with the help of three fours. England chased the target in just 8.2 overs with 6 wickets left.

West Indies Bowling:

West Indian bowlers did everything that they could do. But to defend 56 runs against the power-packed side is too much to expect. Akeal Hossain picked 2 wickets in his four overs.

Ravi Rampal also picked a wicket. But in the end, England won the match comfortably.

Man of the Match:

Moeen Ali was awarded by the man of the match for his brilliant bowling. He set the tone for England by picking important wickets in the powerplay.

It was an easy win for England. Their bowlers did the job first and their batters chased the target easily with 12 overs to spare. For West Indies, the only positive point was Akeal Hossain’s bowling. He played his first match in WC and he bowled brilliantly and also impressed with his fielding. It would have been a competitive game if West Indies was able to score a par score.

Experts were predicting both England and West Indies will qualify from this Group. After today’s performance of West Indies, it is hard for experts to keep believing that West Indies would end up in the top four.
