Taliban in Kabul | awaiting a peaceful transfer of Kabul city
On Sunday, 15th August 2021 Afghan Taliban were in Kabul. It’s surprising to watch the tables turned because the insurgents have promised not to overtake the capital using power. However, they are waiting for a peaceful transfer as mentioned by Taliban spokesman Suhail Shaheen to Al Jazeera. Hence, they are seeking an unconditional surrender from the central government.

Afghan Interior Minister Abdul Sattar Mirzkwal mentioned that the transfer of Kabul would be done peacefully. The ongoing situation has created havoc among the citizens. They are all in panic and want to save their own and loved one’s life. However, the Central Government and the insurgents now seem to be on the same page.
“My only wish is that their return leads to peace. That is all we want,”
Kabul shopkeeper Tariq Nezami.
Taliban today and Taliban 20 years ago! What’s the difference?
20 years ago, a repressive Taliban regime lost its control after the US suppressed it. However, it is 2021 and we all are witnessing a powerful, unexpected comeback as the insurgents have made their way to the major provincial capitals of Afghanistan. The question arising in everyone’s mind is “How would the Taliban deal with the power now? What would be the consequences?” The answer is simple yet unpredictable in many places.
Back in 2001, the Taliban world has always known is cruel and brutal. They were the ones who had always denied women education. They ill-treated the women, forcing them to cover themselves in a Burqa and prohibiting them from working.
The Taliban today is somewhat different. However, the areas which are under their control depict no changes on an ideological basis. They allow the women to work but have strictly told them to cover themselves in a Burqa. Moreover, in schools women would be allowed to teach women and men will teach men only. Taliban’s conduct is similar to their history. Methodically less has changed. Their approach towards handling is all the same.
Is Taliban overtake a threat to international politics?
The Taliban takeover is definitely a threat to international politics. It is going to affect the neighboring countries and the US for sure. Former U.S. Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta called Taliban terrorists and a threat to the national security of the US. He mentioned that,
“If they take control of Afghanistan, there is no question in my mind that they will provide a safe haven for al-Qaida, for ISIS and for terrorism in general,”
Pakistan is now in a very sensitive position. A few days ago the Pentagon blamed it for financing terrorism and having “Terrorist safe heavens” on their mutual border. However, Pakistan denied the allegations. But now with the Taliban taking over the state carries risks for Pakistan as it could face an influx of refugees. The takeover might destabilize Pakistan as the porous border has brought it trouble.
Internationally, Pakistan is believed to be supporting the Taliban as an enormous amount of insurgents appeared and they couldn’t have done something without assistance. However, Pakistan does not accept this. The takeover also threatens the Pakistani government with an attack. The fact to consider is that the Taliban takeover has put up Pakistan in the most complicated position with the US. As it had already mentioned earlier that it won’t allow the US to use its base against the Afghan Taliban.

Do the Taliban in Kabul affect China and India?
20 years ago, Afghanistan was mainly a Pariah state, outlying from the entire world. However, things have flipped now as the Taliban are quick enough to find the allies. They travel to Iran, China, and Russia. Hence, China has also promised several developmental projects in Afghanistan.
“The Taliban see China as a source of international legitimacy, a potential economic supporter and a means of influence over Pakistan, a Chinese ally that has aided the group,”
Wall Street Journal
The Taliban has strictly warned India of using any of its military forces against them. However, it also appreciated the constructive work done by India. The situation is now quite unpredictable but the Taliban takeover in Afghanistan will be a revolution in the conspiracies of international politics. It will renew global relations. Let’s wait and watch how the international community responds to the Taliban control. Moreover, what do you think? Please share your perspective with us! Thank you.
