According to new research, it is found that the human brain in the resting stage, repeatedly recalls every information that was memorized earlier. In short, it repeats the compressed learnings of all the stuff that was recently practised. Isn’t that amazing that breaks enhance brain activity? Let’s dig into further details.

Well, the human brain is a complete set of activities. It has always amazed mankind. However, these days, in the race of money, we’ve forgotten ourselves. Workload makes humans tired. Sometimes, all we need is an escape from the chaotic world.

Brain do needs some rest. Continuous usage of the multitasking organ might result into stress. Pressure of work can cause damage of neurons. Whereas, nerve cells do not regenerate or divide. This might be a danger to life.

How breaks enhance brain activity?

The National Institute of Health Researchers studied some healthy volunteers. Here, they discovered why taking short breaks can lead to the best memorization. They observed that all the volunteers performed certain activities. All of them had their brains recalling the activities recently performed. In conclusion, breaks strengthen the memory.

The research consisted of 33 healthy volunteers. They chose right-handed volunteers. However, the task was to learn and write a given code with the left hand. A five-digit code “41234” was shown to the subjects on a screen. The researchers asked the volunteers to rewrite the code as many times as possible in 10 seconds. Then researchers advised them to take a rest for 10 seconds. Therefore, they repeated this cycle 35 times.

We wanted to explore the mechanisms behind memory strengthening seen during wakeful rest,”

Researcher Ethan R. Buch, Ph.D.

During the activity, the brain performed 20 times faster than usual practice. This was mind-blowing research, Indeed. The successful research provides us with a great technique for increasing brain activity. Traditionally, the hippocampus and entorhinal cortex are not involved in memory-related functions. However, the research proved that they are chattering with the sensorimotor cortex during learning.
