Quetta Gladiators’ miserable journey in this year PSL continues. Gladiators have played seven matches and have won only one match. The recent 61-run defeat on 12 June against Peshawar Zalmi is the latest inductee in the Gladiators’ book of defeats. But that’s not it. Quetta Gladiators’ injury woes continue as well which is another cause of frustration among fans. First Andre Russel got hit on the head. Now, Faf du Plessis suffers a concussion which has also caused some memory loss.
Faf du Plessis suffers a concussion after colliding with Hasnain:
During a match against Peshawar Zalmi, Faf du Plessis collided with his teammate Mohammad Hasnain near the boundary line. Faf was trying to save a boundary when Hasnain’s knee hit his head. Faf du Plessis a day later revealed that due to the severe blow he faced while fielding, he had a concussion and some memory loss.
When watching the footage of the collision, it doesn’t take much time to realize that it was Mohammad Hasnain’s fault. Faf thanked the fans for their prayers and support. He optimistically tweeted, “hopefully be back on the field soon.”
Faf’s wife Imari wrote an emotional note over his injury.
“As a wife and a Mom, I would like to ask that we start to honor the relationship of next of kin. That was my person who just got severely injured with thousands watching. He is my whole life, but at that moment, I am only a spectator,” she wrote on Instagram.
She further stressed that their must be emergency system to efficiently tackle such sort of conditions.
A day before Faf’s injury, Andre Russel was hit on the helmet courtesy of Islamabad’s pacer Musa Khan’s bouncer. Match got stopped for a few minutes and Physio came in to check on him. He got out shortly after the delay. Later he was taken in an ambulance to a hospital for all the necessary scans. It is still unclear whether he will play next Quetta’s match or not. Moreover, before resuming this tournament in Abu Dhabi, Anwar Ali tested Positive for coronavirus.
How can Quetta Gladiators still qualify for playoffs?
Gladiators’ chances to qualify for playoffs are slim to none. Quetta has won just one match. If Karachi Kings loses their remaining 4 matches and Multan Sultans loses their remaining 3 matches and Quetta wins their remaining 3 matches, then they can qualify for Play-offs. Thus, Quetta needs nothing short of a miracle to qualify ahead.
All-inclusive, This PSL season is by far the worst season for Quetta. Sarfaraz Ahmed’s luck is not helping the team this time. There is no doubt the team is performing below par in every match. Quetta Gladiators faces injury woes as well. Andre Russel got hit by a bouncer. Now, Faf du Plessis suffers a concussion and some memory loss. In addition to that, their main players like Captain Sarfraz Ahmed, Cameron Delport, Naseem Shah, Zahid Hussain are out of form. The journey of Quetta gladiators is almost over and team management must ponder over what must be done.
