Changes in the Pakistani T20 WorldCup Squad after Announcement:
Sohaib Maqsood, Azam Khan, and Muhammad Husnain have been dropped from the squad after the initial announcement. Shoaib Malik, Sarfaraz Ahmed, and Haider Ali have been brought in the Squad. Also, Khusdil and ShahNawaz Dahani have been added to the Reserves. Fakhar Zaman replaced Khusdil in the main squad.
Review of Pakistan Squad for T20 World Cup:
The selection of some players in the squad is doubtful and surprising.
The squad is led by Babar Azam and the vice-captain is Shadab khan. Muhammad Rizwan is the first-choice Wicket Keeper and the opening batsman. Azam Khan is the backup wicketkeeper and his role is of a finisher at no 6. Muhammad Hafeez, Khushdil Shah, Sohaib Maqsood, Asif Ali are selected as middle-order batsmen. Imad Waseem, Muhammad Nawaz, and Shadab Khan are selected as spinners. Haris Rauf, Shaheen Afridi, Muhammad Hussnain, Hassan Ali, and Muhammad Waseem Jnr are selected ad the fast bowler for the tournament.
The opening is not a concern for Pakistan. Babar Azam and Muhammad Rizwan are the two most consistent openers at the present. They have given some solid starts in the recent games. They have also chased the target of 200 runs against South Africa recently.
Middle Order- A Woeful Tale :
Middle Order is the main headache for the Pakistan team for the last 2 years. Players like Hussain Talat, Haider Ali, Danish Aziz, Iftikar Ahmad, Asif Ali, Khushdil Shah were handed the responsibility of middle-order but they were not able to perform up to the mark. The form of Muhamamd Hafeez as a batsman is also a concern because he has not performed well in recent times. He has scored 109 runs in 9 innings in 2021. But in the recent series, his performance in bowling is quite good. He was economical and took wickets.
Stats of Middle Order players:
The players that are selected for middle-order don’t look great on paper. They have been dropped quite a few times on their poor form. The tried and tested players haven’t done anything special in the past two years. Muhammad Waseem said in his press conference that we are going back to the players that haven’t perform in their last matches because we don’t have other options.
Asif Ali has played 29 t20s and averages only 16.7 with a strike rate of 123 while he has the strike rate of 168 in 2021 PSL. Asif Ali is quite a good hitter in PSL but in international cricket, he hasn’t performed.
Experience of Malik and Fakhar while the enthusiasm of Haider is added in the middle order.
Khushdil Shah is again a good domestic player but doesn’t have good international outings. He has a strike rate of 138 in PSL 6 but in international Cricket, he strikes at 110.
Lack of Quality Spinners
If we look at the spin department and the conditions in the UAE, our spin department includes a leg spinner and two left-arm spinners. Shadab Khan, and Imad Waseem, are the two spinners that are considered in the squad.
Usman Qadir is in reserves.
Shadab Khan form is also a concern. He has not been performing as expected as he is the senior member of the squad and continuously playing cricket
In-experienced Fast Bowling
Muhammad Waseem Junior and Haris Rauf don’t have much experience. The fast bowling panel will be led by Shaheen Shah Afridi.
Shah Nawaz Dahani is in reserve.
Regular members Dropped from Pakistan Squad for T20 World Cup:
Some senior Players like Muhammad Amir, Wahab Riaz, and Iftikhar Ahmed are not considered. In a tournament like a world cup, teams mostly rely on their senior players but Pakistan has not considered their senior players. They have performed well in the different leagues.
