The dominant strain of covid19, the delta variant (Indian variant), is spreading like fire in Karachi! Doctors are distressed as the situation is going out of control. Hence, they want to foist medical emergency in Karachi. Unfortunately, hospitals are running out of beds, and the number of patients is getting doubled gradually. The government already had closed schools and indoor dine-in restaurants since 17th July 2021. However, the delta variant has strongly tangled the healthcare system of the city.

Why doctors want a medical emergency in Karachi?

The Indian covid19 strain has already told the world about its long-term effects. Any wise country would never let the spreading of such a strong variant. Health officials reported more than 40 cases of delta variants in Karachi a week ago. It’s shocking as the tally has crossed 100 now. The positivity ratio of Karachi is 23%, and this is all due to the delta variant.

Eid-ul-Adha is just around the corner, and the health conditions are deteriorating in the city. Moreover, the tally is surely going to rise more now. This is because of Eid meet-ups, as some people are surely going to avoid SOPS and would contribute to the increase.

Unfortunately, all the public hospitals are approaching near-maximum saturation. In conversation with Indus hospital, Geo News told that there is no space remaining at the hospital now. Further, the Expo center faced 39 new admissions last night and is almost fully saturated.

Government officials notified that the NIPA’s Infectious Diseases Hospital is at the maximum load and has no further space left. AKU has also started refusing any more Covid19 patients. In contrast, the Civil hospital is trying to increase the capacity by converting the surgical ward into a corona ward. Similarly, the health officials will convert the chest ward of Jinnah hospital into a corona ward.

The most dangerous trait of this strain is that it can easily transmit. So directly, there is an increase in the chances of hospitalization. Although studies are still on their way, recent researchers claim that delta variants can also chase the vaccinated people. However, this isn’t the case everywhere.

The variant that was first identified in India has finally made its way through 77 countries now. It has 40-60% of higher chances of transmission than the alpha variant (the first one). Both public and government must follow the guidelines to prevent the delta covid19 variant.
