Qualifier 2 was played between Kolkata knights riders and Delhi Capitals. Kolkata knight riders won the toss and they decided that they will have a bowl first. They were unchanged. Andre Rusell was not selected due to his injury. Delhi Capitals made one change Tom Curran was replaced by Marcus Stoinis. Marcus Stoinis was included in the side after he recovered from the injury.

Delhi Capitals openers were in brilliant form throughout the season. Both of them are in the top 10 leading runs scorer of Indian Premier League 2021. Prithvi Shaw and Shikhar Dhawan opened the innings. Shaw tried to attack Kolkata’s bowler at the start of the innings. But he fell on 18 runs. Stoinis Joined Shikar Dhawan on the crease. Stoinis came back after his injury. So, it was difficult for him to play aggressively due to his lack of match practice and slow surface.

Delhi Capitals managed to score 38 runs in the powerplay with the loss of a wicket. Stoinis lost his wicket at the score of 18 runs on 23 balls. He was dismissed by Shivam Mavi. Shikhar Dhawan started the innings aggressively but he got slower as the innings progress. He scored 36 runs in 39 balls with a help of 1 four and 2 sixes. Rishabh Pant got out early on 6 runs. He was dismissed by Lockie Ferguson. Hetymer played a little cameo of 17 runs with two sixes and got run-out.

Shreyas Iyer stood at the one end and finished the innings. He scored unbeaten 30 runs in 27 balls with a six and four. Delhi Capitals finished the innings at the score of 135 runs with the loss of 5 wickets in twenty overs.

Kolkata’s bowlers were quite exceptional with the ball. They were economical in their bowling spell. Varun Chakravarthy was the most successful bowler. He picked 2 wickets by giving 26 runs in 4 overs. Ferguson and Mavi picked one wicket each.

Kolkata needed 136 runs to qualify for the finals. Their openers started at the innings brilliantly. They scored the partnership of 96 runs. Venkatesh Iyer got out after scoring 55 runs in 41 balls with the help of 4 fours and 3 sixes. Nitish Rana came to bat at no 3. He got out after scoring 13 runs in 12 balls. At this point, 123-2 it looked like Kolkata will easily chase the target and will qualify for the finals. But then they started to collapse.

Shubham Gill was dismissed at the score of 46 on 46 balls by Avesh Khan. Dinesh Kartik got out on duck. He was bowled by Rabada. Eoin Morgan came at no 6. But his struggle with the bat continues and got out on duck too. He was bowled by Nortje. Kolkata needed 7 off the last over. Ravi Ashwin Bowled the last over. He dismissed Shakib Ul Hassan and Sunil Narine on duck.

Kolkata needed 6 off 2 balls and Rahul Tripathi was on strike. Ravi Ashwin bowled a short ball and Tripathi hit that to six and took his team to the finals. Kolkata chased the target with one ball to spare.

Delhi Capitals Bowling

Delhi Capitals bowlers were exceptional with the ball in hand. Though they were not able to get wickets in the first 10 overs they didn’t give many runs. They created many chances in the field but their fielders dropped catches and misfielded. Ravi Ashwin, Nortje, and Rabada picked 2 wickets each. Avesh Khan also picked a wicket.

Man of the match

Venkatesh Iyer was awarded the man of the match award for his brilliant display of batting. He scored 55 runs in 41 balls and helped his team to qualify for the finals.
