This topic is trending on Twitter since last night but no media channel is giving it the deserved coverage. Maybe that’s because she was not a celebrity or maybe it’s too casual of women getting a victim of domestic violence. Whatever the reason is, but we feel it’s an obligation to write against this brutality. Indeed, those who remain silent of injustice will be considered as a part of it.
So, it’s a case of another Pakistani girl among thousands who were mercilessly victimized by domestic violence. What’s the difference if she is just another one? The difference is the brutality that we never witnessed or maybe not encountered before. Who was QuratulAin and why she was killed?
There is no solid reason behind her killing but the way she was killed, It seemed that it was just for sake of fun. QuratulAin was a mother of four children. Her husband Umer Khalid killed her on 15th July 2021. She was an MBA degree holder. It was not the first time that her husband physically abused her. Numerous times before he used to torture her physically and mentally. But the night of her murder was the extreme of brutality that one can ever do.
According to their daughter, Umer Khalid was drunk that night. He came at 9 pm and start beating his wife. Her husband kept hitting her for hours until she died at 3 am. I have no words to explain how much she would have suffered in six hours. Medical reports declared that her jaw bones were broken. Her whole body was filled with bruises and fractured bones.

That’s not it here, what her daughter revealed was much shocking and insane. Daughter of QuratulAin told media that his father turned the music on and kept the temperature of the air conditioner at freezing point. He was also splashing cold water on her after hitting her against walls. This man was doing it so she can feel intense pain after every hit.
Finally, the game he started was ended after six hours when she mercilessly died. Her eyes and nose were continually bleeding during her funeral. After killing QuratulAin in front of her four children, he calmly kept drinking. He brought her to the hospital in the morning where she was declared dead.
Initially, the family reported FIR but police refused to arrest Umar Khalid as he is an influential person. However, when the family of the victim started protests, police had to arrest him. But, there are not many chances for him to get any punishment for his deeds.
Justice for QuratulAin! Will she Ever get justice?
The simple answer is no. Because, as we said earlier it’s a case among thousands of similar ones. Were they got justice? No! Because we don’t even have a law against it. Recently our beloved prime minister refused to pass the domestic violence protection bill. He advised sending the bill to the Islamic committee.
It is ridiculous that our authorities are confused about Islamic teachings against women’s violence. It is also hilarious that foreign countries even have violence protection rights for dogs. And Pakistan has no domestic violence policies for women. But no, we can’t put all the blame on the government. It’s our society that leaves women in this situation. In an interview, the brother of QuratulAin was saying:
Yes, he used to beat my sister. He kept beating her when she was pregnant. And that is why my nephew was born mentally ill.
Like wow, you knew it and you never did anything to save her until she died. Would a divorced sister be any worse than a brutally killed one? A spot of divorce on her forehead would be any terrible than a bruises-covered face?
We Need to Change to Stop Domestic Violence
Honestly speaking, if the government implement laws on slapping or hitting women, are we ready to accept that? There will be a huge number of “Fatwaas” that will be trending against the policy. In reality, we need mentality change first. We have to bring morality into our society before making domestic violence protection a law. Because protection starts from home, from society.
We need to bring major changes in our moral values that accept being slapped as a normal thing. This is NOT NORMAL. Hitting a woman is not Normal. Killing a lady is not normal. Justice for QuratulAin is just a protest that will end soon. Nothing will happen if we don’t change.
