Global Warming is one of the worldwide issues. Since the Industrial Revolution, the global annual temperature has increased by its normal range which led to higher global warming. And this results in Climate Change throughout the world. Various studies, like a 2018 paper published in the journal Environmental Research Letters, have proven that impacts of global warming are harming people around the world.
Climate scientists have concluded that we must limit global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius by 2040 if we want to avoid the worst climate of the future. But if we don’t pay attention to the world’s biggest issue, we will face climate change with the most devastating effects: extreme droughts, wildfires, floods, tropical storms, and other disasters in the future. Here I’ve briefly explained the facts regarding Global Warming, its Causes, Effects, and Preventive Measures.
Global Warming Definition
A gradual increase in the temperature of the earth’s atmosphere is generally caused by increased levels of carbon dioxide, CFCs, and other pollutants which are attributed to the greenhouse effect.
Global Warming is the long-term heating process of Earth’s climate system. It was primarily observed since the pre-industrial period (1850 and 1900) due to human activities, fossil fuel burning. Human activities and fossil fuel burning increase heat-trapping greenhouse gas levels in Earth’s atmosphere which couldn’t move out of the atmosphere.
Major Causes of Global Warming
Here are some of the major factors causing climate change. Read the facts below:
Greenhouse Gases
Although Carbon Dioxide is less abundant in the atmosphere, its high amount will cause adverse effects for both animals and plants. Humans cut trees for purposes like food, residence, and industrial constructions. So, carbon dioxide gas accumulated in the atmosphere which then couldn’t move out of the atmosphere. Carbon Dioxide reacts with other pollutants and this will cause a rise in the Earth’s atmosphere temperature.
Deforestation
Humans are continuously cutting trees for many purposes like residence, food, and industrial revolution but forests are not being restored. Deforestation not only causes global warming but also species extinction. Due to the deforestation by humans, the habitats of animals are destroyed and many of these animals can’t get an alternative habitat to live for. So, various precious and ancient animals and plant species are dying due to deforestation.
Fossil Fuels Burning
Fossil fuel burning is one of the major causes of global warming. Burning of the fossil fuels emitted various hazardous gases such as oxides of sulfur, nitrogen, and carbon which have adverse effects on living organisms. In industries, the burning of fossil fuels such as coal and petroleum for energy releases carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. As a result, many greenhouse gases such as methane and CFCs are produced which increase Earth’s Temperature.
Adverse Effects of Global Warming
Day by day scientists is discovering more about the impacts of global warming. But most importantly, we also gain new devastating impacts on people and the planet Earth. As we know heat waves, droughts, weather hotness, and floods are associated with climate change, these impacts have become worse for climate change. Here are some of the major impacts of global warming.
Rising Sea Levels
Rising sea levels will lead to coastal flooding on the Eastern Seaboard. And a lot of Islands are in danger of flooding due to rising sea levels. Especially in Florida, and in other areas such as the Gulf of Mexico. So, it’s clear that if this issue continues to increase every year, sea levels will rise accordingly. So, this could have an adverse impact of pollution in coastal areas.
Disappearing Glaciers
The regular rise in global warming is causing early snowmelt. The early snow melts will bring severe droughts such as more dramatic water shortages for humans and also for aquatic lives. Another drawback of glaciers disappearing is increasing the risk of wildfires in the American West. Water shortage can also damage or destroy agriculture and fisheries which will ultimately cause disaster.
Human Disorders
Allergies, asthma, and infectious diseases are occurring due to global warming effects. And this will become more common and adverse due to the increased growth of pollen-producing ragweed, high air pollution, and the spread of pathogens and mosquitoes. Global warming supports conditions that are favorable for the production and growth of pathogens & mosquitoes. These pathogens cause various human skin and infectious disorders.
Species Extinction
Habitats disruptions will cause migration or even extinction of living organisms as coral reefs and alpine meadows could drive the extinction of many plants and animals. Also, many other effects of global warming are interlinked to species extinction such as flooding, rising sea levels, and disappearing glaciers.
