As we are witnessing more team matches, UEFA 2020 is growing interesting. Now, England defeated Croatia 1–0 and takes a lead in Group D. England and Croatia played their first game in UEFA 2020 against each other today.
Both England And Croatia are part of group D in Euro 2020. Other members of Group D are Scotland and the Czech Republic. These two are yet to play a game. England, with today’s victory, is now on top in Group D’s ranking.
England defeated Croatia: Raheem Sterling scored the match-winning goal:
Wembley’s weather was hot. Match started at 14:00 BST local time. In the first half, no goal was scored by either team. Then in the next half, Raheem Sterling scored the only goal in 57-minute for England which resulted in their victory. Livakovic was not able to stop the ball from going into the nets. 22,500 fans watching the game in the stadium cheered loudly for Raheem Sterling.
Victory is sweet but revenge is sweeter:
- This victory is sweeter for England as Croatia defeated them in the 2018 Worldcup Semifinals and knocked them out of the tournament.
Now after three years, In UEFA 2020 game, England took their revenge.
Both countries are eyeing to qualify for the finals which will be held on 11 July. But in today’s game, Croatia looked below par. They tried to take the upper hand but couldn’t succeed. Meanwhile, England looked threatening and had the game in their hands most of the time.
What does Manager Gareth Southgate think of England defeating Croatia?
England Football team Manager Gareth Southgate told the BBC that victory will relieve us from tensions. He further stated that we were in the control most of the time. We didn’t provide them (Croatian players) any opportunities and we looked dangerous on the field.
England’s next game is against Scotland on 18 June. The way England defeated Croatia will definitely provide them momentum in the upcoming games. On this day as well, Croatia will square off with the Czech Republic as well. So, it will be a busy day for Group D and we could see some shuffle in the team’s rankings in Group D.
The confidence level of Manager Southgate is up and he thinks England definitely has a chance to play finals.
