Before DC vs CSK highlights, read the Summary. The first qualifier of the Indian premier league was played between Delhi Capitals and Chennai Super Kings. Chennai Super Kings won the toss and decided that they will bowl first. Delhi Capitals made one change- Tom Curran replaces Ripal Yadav. Chennai Super Kings was unchanged. Delhi Capitals opening is their strength. Shikhar Dhawan and Prithvi Shaw, their both openers are in the top ten run-getters of the Indian Premier League 2021. Shikhar Dhawan couldn’t able to give a good start. He falls on 7 runs on 7 balls. Shreyas Iyer was also not able to score as well. He got out after just 1 run. Both the batters were dismissed by Josh Hazelwood. Delhi Capitals scored 51 runs in the powerplay with the loss of 2 wickets.

Prithvi Shaw was the stand-out batsman of the innings. He scored aggressive 60 runs off 34 balls with the help of 7 fours and 3 sixes. He was dismissed by Ravindra Jadeja. Axar Patel was promoted in the batting order but he was not able to hit the ball. He scored 10 runs on the 11 balls.

Rishab Pant played the captain’s innings. He scored unbeaten 51 runs on 35 balls with the help of three fours and two sixes. Hetmyer also played an important cameo of 37 runs on 24 balls at the strike rate of 154.

Chennai Super Kings Bowling

Chennai Super Kings’ bowlers were quite good with the ball. Josh Hazelwood picked the early wickets in the innings. He finished his spell by giving 27 runs and picked two wickets. Ravindra Jadeja, Moeen Ali, and Dwayne Bravo picked one wicket each. Shardul Thakur was wicketless and the most expensive bowler of the innings. He gave 36 runs in 3 overs.

Chennai Super Kings Batting

The target for Chennai was 173 runs. Chennai was heavily dependent on their opening pair. Ruturaj and Faf Du Plessis are the top 5 runs getter of this season. Faf du Plessis got out early. He was bowled by Nortje on 1 run. Robin Uttapha joined Ruturaj Gaikwad. They both took the innings forward brilliantly. They both scored the partnership of 110 runs on 77 balls. Robin Uthappa got out after scoring 63 runs on 44 balls with the help of 7 fours and 2 sixes. He was dismissed by Tom Curran. Shardul Thakur was promoted to bat but unfortunately, he was not able to perform. He was dismissed on golden duck by Tom Curran.

Then, Ambati Rayudu was run-out on 1 run. Moeen Ali scored 16 runs in 12 balls. He was dismissed by Tom Curran too. Ruturaj Gaikwad remained at the one end. He scored 70 runs in 50 balls with the help of 5 fours and 2 sixes. He was dismissed by Avesh Khan.

Chennai needed 24 runs in the last two overs. MS Dhoni came in at that time was a bit surprising considering his form. But the way he batted showed that it was the right decision. He took the match away from Delhi Capitals. He scored 18 runs on just 6 balls with the help of three fours and a six.

  • Chennai chased the target in the last over with two balls to spare. Thye chased 173 runs in 19.4 with four wickets in hand.

Delhi Capitals Bowling

Delhi Capitals bowlers weren’t able to pick wickets in the start. The early partnership of 100 plus runs helps Chennai to chase that target. Tom Curran picked three wickets. But he was not able to defend 13 runs in his last over. Anrich Nortje and Avesh Khan picked one wicket each. Kagiso Rabada looked out of rhythm in this match. He was not able to pick a wicket and bowled only three overs. Avesh Khan was the most expensive bowler of the innings.

Ruturaj Gaikwad was awarded man of the match for his brilliant display of batting. He scored 70 runs on 50 balls and helped his side to qualify for the finals.
