Chennai Super Kings after winning the toss decided to bowl first. They made one change on their side. Dwayne Bravo replaced Sam Curran. Sunrisers Hyderabad played with the same eleven.

Jason Roy and Wriddhiman Saha opened the innings for Sunrisers Hyderabad. Jason Roy who was the man of the match in the previous game got out on 2 runs in this match. Captain Williamson also struggled with the bat and couldn’t able to score fluently. He scored 11 runs in 11 balls. Sunrisers Hyderabad only managed to score 41 runs in the powerplay.
After the wicket of Williamson, Hyderabad looked on the backfoot because of their inexperienced middle order. Wriddhiman Saha stood at the one end but his innings were not the kind of innings that could take away the game from opponents. He scored 44 runs on 46 balls at the strike rate of 96.
Abhishek Sharma and Abdul Samad, both scored 18 runs with one six and a four. Rashid Khan finished the innings with a couple of fours that helped them to finish the innings on 134 runs with the loss of seven wickets.

Chennai bowlers were quite good throughout the innings. Josh Hazelwood picked three wickets by giving away only 24 runs in 4 overs. Dwayne Bravo, after his return to the team, picked two wickets and gave seventeen runs in his 4 over quota. Shardul and Jadeja picked one wicket each.

Chennai’s top order is in the form of their life. Both of them again gave Chennai a stand of 50 plus runs. Ruturaj Gaikwad and Faf du Plessis gave the opening stand of 75 runs before Gaikwad got out on Holder’s delivery. He scored 45 runs on 38 balls with the help of 4 fours and 2 sixes.

Moeen Ali is an integral part of Chennai batting. He came to bat at no 3. He looked good with the bat and managed to score 17 runs. He was bowled by Rashid Khan. Then Suresh Raina came but he only scored 2 runs and was given LBW on Holder’s bowling. Faf du Plessis also got out in the same over in which Raina got out. Faf du Plessis scored 41 runs in 36 balls with three fours and two sixes.
Chennai lost three wickets on the score of five runs. At this stage, Chennai needed 31 runs in 25 balls. Ambati Rayudu and MS Dhoni were on the crease. They both finished the game with 2 balls to spare. MS Dhoni finished the game with six.
Sunrisers Hyderabad Bowling
Sunrisers Hyderabad’s campaign didn’t go well in this season. They failed badly with the bat and ball and their consistent record to go in the playoffs also broke this year’s IPL 2021. Despite the brilliant performance of Jason Holder and Rashid Khan, their team struggled to win the matches. In this game, they both were the only bowlers who picked wickets. Holder picked three wickets and Rashid picked one wicket. The rest of the bowling lineup didn’t able to pick wickets.

Josh Hazelwood was awarded a man of the match for his brilliant spell of bowling. He picked 3 wickets in 4 overs by giving away only 24 runs. His spell helped Chennai to restrict Hyderabad to that total.

From becoming the first team to be eliminated in the previous year of IPL to becoming the first time to qualify for the playoffs in this season, Chennai has played some good cricket. Sunrisers Hyderabad is the first team to be eliminated from the playoffs. Their consistent streak of qualifying in the playoffs has also broken.
