In match 35, Chennai Super Kings skipper MS Dhoni won the toss and elected to bowl first. Chennai played with the same team but RCB made two changes. Tim David and Navdeep Saini played instead of Kylie Jamieson and Sachin Baby.
Sharjah is generally a high-scoring venue and defending a target is the most difficult job to do there. Moreover, the pressure was on RCB batting that has not performed well in the last game and got out on 92 runs only. This time they came with different intentions.
RCB skipper Virat Kohli and youngster Devdutt Padikal gave the team a good start. Virat Kohli’s form was a concern in the previous matches but today he scored some runs. Both the openers completed a 100 runs start in just 11.1 overs. However, Kohli played slower than required.
At this point, it looked like that they were on the track of scoring more than 200 runs but their wickets fell at the regular interval and no one finished the game with boundaries for them. After the wicket of Virat Kohli on the score of 111, it was expected that they will at least score 180 runs with the likes of Ab de villiers, Maxwell, and Tim David yet to come. But RCB remaining batting lineup proved to be a house of cards.
AB de Villiers wasn’t able to middle the bowl in this match. It looked like the pitch was difficult for the batters when the ball got old.
Tim David was added to the team to support the middle order that was continuously performing poorly. But to the RCB fans’ dismay, even he failed as well.
Devdutt Padikkal played a blistering knock of 70 runs in just 50 deliveries. When he got out, the middle order of RCB collapsed. But credit should also be given to the Chennai bowlers as well. The way they bowled in the death overs is commendable.
- Royal Challengers Banglore scored Just 156 runs in 20 over.
At one stage from 111 for 1 down, they only scored 156 for 6 wickets. They loss 6 wickets of just 45 runs in 6.4 overs.
Chennai Bolwers was exceptional with the old ball. They didn’t get the wicket with the new ball. But they came back stronger in the last ten overs and managed to restrict RCB batting to 156. Dwayne Bravo, the death-overs king, was the pick of the bowlers who got three wickets by just giving twenty-four runs. Shardul Thakur picked two wickets as well.
Chennai Super Kings Batting:
In reply, it was an easy chase for Chennai. Their openers showcased their skills and provided CSK the start they needed. Ruturaj Gaikwad with Faf du Plessis gave the opening stand of 71 runs. Gaikwad got out after scoring 38 runs. Moeen Ali and Rayudu also played a crucial role in this run chase. Harsha Bhogle tweeted:
Moeen Ali got out after 23 runs and Rayudu got dismissed after scoring 32 runs.
Suresh Rania and MS Dhoni Finished the game for the Chennai Super Kings. After the flop Show of the middle Order, RCB bowling looked below par as well. Pacer Navdeep Saini was quite expensive along with the Sri Lankan Spinner Wanindu Hasaranga. For RCB, Harshal Patel was the pick of the bowlers who took 2 wickets. Chahal and Maxwell picked 1, 1 wickets each.
After this win, Chennai Super Kings moved to the top of the table and their chances to end up in the top 4 are almost certain. RCB, after this loss, still remains at the Number 3 position but their net run rate is low now. Moreover, after the back-to-back losses, their momentum is now disturbed. A few more losses and they will be out of the tournament.
