The government of Sindh is all worried and busy tackling the fourth wave and curbing the spread of the delta variant. A week ago the government implemented lockdown in Karachi amid the rising of corona virus delta variant cases. However, the effort seems to go in vain as the positivity ratio is at a continuous surge in the metropolis. Moreover, health experts have recommended a strict 15 days lockdown in Karachi. Plans of Sindh government to implement lockdown in Karachi

Earlier in July, Pakistan suffered from a surge in the delta variant cases. This lead to a chaotic situation particularly in the metropolitan city “Karachi.” Amid a surge in covid19 delta variant cases in Karachi city, the government implemented lockdown a week ago. Health officials informed the government about the unavailability of beds. Moreover, doctors wanted to declare a medical emergency in Karachi amid a surge in delta variant cases. The specifications were:

  • All the educational institutions will remain closed till further notice.
  • No movement after 6pm in the evening.
  • Ban on both indoor and outdoor dine-in services
  • Ban on recreational activities in the city.

Despite a week of lockdown, the government is unable to curb the surge in cases. The positivity rate has increased more than 30% in the business hub of the country. Therefore, the Sindh government is all set to impose a strict, curfew-like lock-down in the metropolitan city. Health experts recommended a 15 days lockdown in the city.

Sindh spokesperson, Murtaza Wahab informed that they have directed the Corona Task Force. Moreover, he stressed the importance of vaccination.

Furthermore, the Sindh government also reached to National Command and Operating Centre (NCOC) to implement strict measures in the city to curb virus spread. Further, Dr. Qaiser Sajjad, Secretary-General of the Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) recommended a 15 days lockdown in Karachi. In order to avoid any catastrophe, the government advises the citizens to strictly follow the SOPS.

CM Sindh Murad Ali Shah addressed a press conference after the COVID task force in July where Murtaza Wahab shared the details of the covid19 situation.

“After a period of 30 days, we have witnessed a fourfold increase and it reached 2,153 on 26 July,”

Murtaza Wahab

Further, he told that vaccination of around 3.2 million people is complete in Karachi. Whereas in Sindh overall 5.4 million people have been vaccinated. Further, he turned down the rumors about vaccination and rubbished the propaganda. He asked the public to wear masks to minimize exposure.

“Kindly wear masks and avoid outing with elders and children to minimize the risk of getting infected,”

Moreover, he warned the citizens saying that,

“No one should then criticize the government’s decision to impose a lockdown,”

In order to increase the convenience of citizens, the Sindh government has established a drive-thru vaccination center in Karachi. In Clifton, near the Dua Restaurant, the drive-thru facility is now operational. Sindh spokesperson, Murtaza Wahab encouraged the public to vaccinate themselves and their family members.

Which vaccines are available at the drive-thru centre?

The vaccines at the drive-thru include:

  • Moderna
  • Cansino
  • Sinopharm

“This is a public-private partnership initiative which is allowing a common citizen to get vaccinated […] Over here they have Moderna, CanSino, and Sinopharm,”

Murtaza Wahab

At last, all we can say is that vaccination is the only solution to the ongoing epidemic of disease. Don’t get trapped by the propaganda of people who are against vaccination. They all spread myths. Go and get yourself vaccinated to live in a corona-free Pakistan! We need to promote immunization procedures to fight against the covid19. Make sure you play your part in the government’s efforts.
