AB de Villiers Cricket – Domestic Career

AB de Villiers has been a part of the Northerns in the South African First-Class Stadium since 2003. He plays for the Titans Multiply in the Sunfoil Series, Momentum One Day Cup, and Ram Slam T20 Challenge beginning around 2004.

ABD just played 16 First-Class matches before the selectors picked him for the afflictions of global Test matches.

ABD in IPL

International Career

Test Career

After a short droop in the form in 2006 and 2007, de Villiers’ returned right on time in 2008 with a rankling 103 not out off 109 balls in Durban against West Indies.  In the first Test in Perth, De Villiers hit a game-dominating century to help South Africa chase down the 2nd highest-ever 4th innings target of 414 with six wickets close by. This was South Africa’s first Test triumph in Australia in 15 years and seemed to go far towards shifting world cricket’s overall influence after longer than a time of Australian dominance.

Aside from his typical attacking style of Cricket, AB de Villiers is also known for his guarded style of cricket whenever the situation demands it.  With South Africa battling to save the Adelaide Test against Australia during the visit Down Under in 2012-13, de Villiers controlled his impulses and dead-batted his direction to a 220-ball 33 in one of the additional intriguing draws ever.

ODI Career

AB de Villiers made his ODI debut against England on 2nd February 2005 at Bloemfontein. Team England batted first and made 270/5 in 50 overs. South Africa made 270 runs for the loss of 8 wickets and the contest was tied. ABD made 20 runs off 56 deliveries.

On 10th April 2007, ABD made his maiden ODI century, 146 from only 130 deliveries including 5 sixes and 12 fours, in the World Cup Super-8 match against Team West Indies.  His splendid performance in the 2015 World Cup had moved the South African side to the final of the quadrennial competition. In transit to the semi-finals, ABD had smashed the fastest ODI 150 against West Indies in 64 balls.

T20I Career

The substance of innovation in current cricket, AB’s accomplishments in the limited-overs game are more qualitative than quantitative.  His T20 debut came against Australia on 24th February 2006 at the Wanderers Stadium. De Villiers confronted just 3 balls for no runs and stayed not out.

Captaincy

Following South Africa’s exit from the 2011 World Cup, ABD was named as the captain of their ODI and T20I team in June. Inferable from the responsibility and tension, he surrendered the T20I captaincy in mid-2013 however kept on playing as South Africa’s main batsman and their best option wicket-keeper.

ABD’s first worldwide match as captain was an ODI against Sri Lanka on 11th January 2012 at Paarl. South Africa scored 301/8 in their 50 overs. Sri Lanka was bowled out for a negligible 43 (their most minimal runs in ODIs) in the 21st over and endured their most exceedingly awful loss as far as runs.

Retirement

AB de Villiers has remained captain of Team South Africa in all three formats. However, due to a series of injuries, he resigned from the Test captaincy. In 2017, he resigned from the captaincy of the national limited-overs games. In May 2018, he declared his retirement from all forms of international cricket. Although later in the year it was authenticated that he would not come back. On 19th November 2021, De Villiers declared his retirement from all forms of cricket.

Family

On 17th February 1984, AB de Villiers was born to Abraham B de Villiers and Millie de Villiers in Warmbad (modern-day Bela-Bela), South Africa. Abraham Benjamin de Villiers has two brothers named Jan de Villiers and Wessels de Villiers. He narrated his childhood days as a “really relaxed lifestyle up there, where everyone knows everyone”. He got his education from Afrikaans Hoër Seunskool in Pretoria with his teammate Faf du Plessis, who is his good friend. Moreover, he is a High School Graduate. His father Abraham B de Villiers was a doctor who had played rugby union in his youth, and he uplifted his son to play sports as a child.

AB de Villiers tied the knot with Daniella de Villiers on 30th March 2013. They have two sons – Abraham de Villiers and John Richard de Villiers and one daughter. De Villiers had proposed to Daniella at the Taj Mahal in 2012, following 5 years of dating. Moreover, he is an accomplished guitar player and a singer as well. In 2010, he launched a bilingual pop collection entitled “Maak Jou Drome Waar” with his companion and South African singer Ampie du Preez. In September 2016, he released his autobiography.
